Look into the eyes, find out which your dreams are, prepare the farewell. Ana Claudia Quintana Arantes, MD, a Geriatrician graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP), found out that further to the curing, the caring is part of the Medicine. She realized that the care has an effect over the suffering and that dealing with death is, above all, falling in love with life. In the contraflow of the traditional medicine, Dr. Arantes carries the wisdom of terminal patients to the most diverse fields of life: she gives courses on how to have better talks and provokes the audience in lectures on how to deal with death.
The sensibility experienced in the day-to-day life also becomes poetry, already published in the book “Linhas Pares” (Pair Lines) [not translated] and transforms itself into the message that is daily conveyed: the acknowledgement of the finitude is essential to enjoy a fuller life. A specialist in Palliative Care from Instituto Palliumand the University of Oxford, with a Postgraduate degree in Bereavement Interventions, Dr. Arantes is a partner at, and founder of, Associação Casa do Cuidar(Care Home Association), an entity recognized as a reference in the formation of Palliative Care health professionals.
She is a teacher at The School of Life and Humana Palavra(Humane Word), where she addresses themes like how to deal with death and how to have better talks. Her intensive course, Talks About Death, has been looked for by people from all over Brazil, because Dr. Arantes addresses a theme so contaminated by taboos and biases with unparalleled truth and sensibility. With great delicacy, she puts together the unthinkable about death and the unforgettable day to day of people. She is the author of the book “A morte é um dia que vale a pena viver” (Death is a Day that is Worth Living” [not translated], currently with more than twenty thousand copies sold (know more about the book here).
